Discovery Place Burns

Discovery Place is a retreat for men run by a nonprofit, pairing Twelve Step direction with one-on-one counseling in an encouraging environment. The team intends to reach every resident at whatever point life has brought them, and to help them develop the abilities needed for lasting connections by way of recovery gatherings held off campus, social occasions, personal coaching, and support from committed professionals and volunteers.

Most days open with a morning meal, then meditation or a group gathering. Structured groups and sessions fill the afternoon, and once dinner is over, clients take on light chores or the duties assigned to them. Each week includes scheduled downtime, and clients have the run of the gym on the grounds, the volleyball and basketball courts, fishing, disc golf, and outings beyond the campus, among them trips to hockey games.

Discovery Place provides detox and residential rehab, and a typical program lasts 90+ days. Counseling options include individual sessions, family therapy, group work, mindfulness therapy, and Twelve Step facilitation. The center draws on evidence-based, holistic, and Twelve Step methods. Aftercare is offered on-site.

The center works with men and addresses a variety of substances, such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, and opioids. It also treats conditions including anxiety, codependency, depression, gambling, pornography addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder, and sex addiction.

The grounds of Discovery Place cover 17 acres in Burns, Tennessee. Residents stay in comfortable housing with generous space, and a lake on the property is open for fishing. On-site features include nearby nature, a basketball court, a fitness center, a dining room serving gourmet meals, an outdoor lounge area, and a volleyball court. Bedrooms are air conditioned and available as private or shared rooms. Among the activities are AA/NA meetings, disc golf, fishing, exercise, volleyball, and water-based recreation. Services are provided in English for men.
